Bloomberg reports that the ambitious Neom Line project is being scaled back considerably. Rather than the lofty 170km by 2030, the project is now looking like a 2.4km stretch, completed in the same amount of time. The original ambition 'remain' as a stretch goal, across an underdetermined time. Clearly the ambition far outreached the realities of what is achievable.
Look a little closer however and you can start to see some clever (and more sensible thinking) from the Kingdom, with the creation of the Neom Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC).
A sustainable future will require both electric and hydrogen technologies to develop and grow. Saudi Arabia has the infrastructure and a long history in fuel production. A pivot into hydrogen production also leans into the other natural resource that a large and varied geographical landscape affords.
